Auditions for Two One Act Plays

Dingle Drama Repertory Company is proud to present this two one act play with a modern flair!

Auditions - November 1st from 2-4pm at the Comedy Arts Theater of Charlotte.

Please prepare a 1–2 minute monologue. Additional sides will be given at auditions. If you are unable to attend in person, you may send a self tape audition to dingledrama@gmail.com. Self tape auditions should have 2 different monologues, no longer than 4 minutes total.

About Overtones
Overtones by Alice Gerstenberg explores the tension between what we say and what we really think as two women reunite, while their inner selves reveal hidden jealousy, desire, and ambition. This modernized production reimagines two characters as members of the queer community with name changes.

Roles Available
All genders, races & identities encouraged to audition.

 

HARRIET — Female-presenting, 25–50
Polished, sophisticated and controlled, with strong emotions simmering underneath.

HETTY — Female-presenting, 25–50
Harriet’s inner self. Passionate, impulsive, jealous and completely unfiltered.

MARGARET — Female, trans, or nonbinary-presenting, 25–50
Warm, gracious and proud, working hard to hide the struggles beneath the surface.

MAGGIE — Female, trans, or nonbinary-presenting, 25–50
Margaret’s inner self. Practical, anxious, instinctive and driven by survival.

About Trifles
Trifles by Susan Glaspell follows two women who uncover crucial clues in a murder investigation that the men dismiss as insignificant. This classic one-act explores gender, isolation, and the unspoken bonds between women. Some language will be modernized.

MRS. HALE — Female-presenting, 35–65
Grounded, practical, observant and compassionate, with strong emotional depth.

MRS. PETERS — Female-presenting, 30–60
Reserved and thoughtful, with a significant emotional journey throughout the play.

GEORGE HENDERSON — Male-presenting, 30–55
Confident and authoritative County Attorney who is quick to dismiss what seems unimportant.

HENRY PETERS — Male-presenting, 35–65
Practical, straightforward sheriff who is comfortable in a position of authority.

LEWIS HALE — Male-presenting, 35–65
An earnest, conversational neighboring farmer and natural storyteller.

Show Dates: Jan 30 & 31, 2027 at The Comedy Arts Theater of Charlotte

Rehearsals will primarily be Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Rehearsals will start early December but be heavy in January. Times will be determined by actor and director availability. There is not a guaranteed stipend for these performances but we hope to use ticket sales to provide a modest one after the production closes.

TODD BURNETTE

Director - Trifles

Karla Dingle is an actor, director, improviser, writer, and teaching artist based in Charlotte, NC. She earned her degree in Writing and Directing from the University of Georgia and is the Artistic Director of Dingle Drama Repertory Company. Karla wrote and directed her original one-woman show, Judged, and her directing credits include the improvised production On Hallowed Ground, touring productions of The Bedroom and Good Trouble, and four Variety of Life showcases. She has taught and performed across six continents and trained with The Second City, Hoopla, and The Groundlings.

Todd Burnette, originally from Macon, Georgia, is a writer, director, and actor based in the Charlotte, NC area. He wrote and directed the stage play If I Could Turn Back the Hands of Time, which premiered at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, and is the writer and director of the web series After the Honeymoon. Todd has also written numerous sketch-comedy scripts and performed in stage productions throughout the Charlotte metro area. As a director, Todd is passionate about bringing the root of each character to life, exploring the unknown, and creating authentic stories that connect with audiences.
