ACTING & IMPROV WORKSHOP MENU

Below is a sampling of workshops taught by Karla Dingle. These offerings can be done as a one day workshop for 2-4 hours or can be explored further in courses ranging from 2-8 sessions. 

These classes will teach improvisers how to dig deeper into scenes through their character's wants, needs and as an improviser responding with your heart and tummy. Through a variety of exercises and scenes, students will explore authenticity, silence and vulnerability. It will also teach stage and on-camera actors the fundamentals of using improv to enhance the quality of their performances.

This scene work diagnostic class will allow students to explore dynamics and relationships while intensifying the emotional context of the scene. Students will be able to isolate what they are feeling and then learn the tools to intensify the emotion and the stake in the scene.

Intensify your Scene

The session will show students how to hold on to what they are feeling while being affected by their scene partner. It will show students that their point of view shouldn’t shift but can still be moldable. How do you stay angry with the someone who is being lovely and nice? You might forgive but you’ll never forget?

Extend your Emotion

Students will focusing on making their performance larger but still authentic. What does larger look like? As actors, you’ll target optimum facial expression and vocal tones to convey your point. You’ll see that what you say isn’t the most important part of the scene.

Enlarge your Performance

This class will help improvisers tap into their dramatic side through the exploration of emotions, backstory, repetition, vulnerability and improvised scene work.

In addition, improvisers will dive into scripted work to understand how the intersection of acting and improve delivers a more authentic performance.

Acting for Improvisers

This workshop will teach stage and on-camera actors the fundamentals of improv. This class will show how improv can be applied to scripted and non-scripted work.


It will help actors become more improvisational and more confident in their performances as well as assist in creating unique characters and performance moments. This session will explore improv techniques through:

Listening, Reacting, Authenticity, Backstory, Cold Reads, Monologues, Commercials, Auditions

Improv for Actors

Karla can provide private sessions to prepare for auditions as well as private acting lessons to increase emotional depth, confidence and line delivery. Using improv to provide a foundation for scripted work is a skill set casting directors are now looking for, Karla's expertise in improv and acting is an asset to actors throughout their careers.
